Our Commitment to Accessibility
NROCRC is committed to ensuring that our services, programs, and digital communications are accessible to all people — including those with disabilities. We believe every community member deserves equal access to the support and information they need.
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
NROCRC complies with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and strives to meet the requirements of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR). Our goal is to provide goods, services, and facilities in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities.
Web Content Accessibility
This website is designed to conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), as required under Ontario's AODA Information and Communications Standard. We have implemented the following accessibility features:
- Skip navigation link to bypass repeated header content
- Keyboard-accessible navigation, menus, and interactive elements
- Sufficient colour contrast ratios meeting WCAG AA requirements
- Descriptive alt text for all meaningful images
- Visible focus indicators for all interactive elements
- Properly structured headings and page landmarks for screen readers
- ARIA labels on all forms, icons, and interactive components
- Language attribute set correctly for French and Arabic content
- Right-to-left (RTL) layout support for Arabic language users
- Reduced motion support for users with vestibular disorders
- Safety Exit button for users accessing the site in unsafe situations
In-Person Accessibility
Our office at the Emerald Plaza is physically accessible, including:
- Barrier-free entrance and elevator access
- Accessible washrooms on site
- Accessible parking available in the Emerald Plaza parking lot
- Services available in English and French; interpretation available upon request
- Staff trained in accessible customer service under the AODA
Multi-Language Access
NROCRC serves a diverse, multilingual community. This website includes English and French content, as well as support for Arabic (including full right-to-left layout). If you require service in another language, please contact us — interpretation can often be arranged.
Accessible Customer Service Policy
NROCRC has an Accessible Customer Service Policy in place as required under the AODA. Our staff are trained to:
- Welcome assistive devices and service animals
- Communicate in a manner that takes into account each person's disability
- Provide accessible formats and communication supports upon request
